Candace Cameron Bure Reveals Battle with Bulimia

Candace Cameron grew up in front of the camera, playing DJ Tanner on the hit television series, ‘Full House.’ Though she was young and famous, Candace also had to endure some of life’s most awkward stages – including becoming a teenager – on national television.

Now 34, the actress admits she’s in the best shape of her life, thanks to her pro-athlete husband, their three active children, and lessons she learned from her never-before-revealed battle with bulimia.

“It’s a very dangerous cycle that can just start to consume your life and really take over,” Candace told PEOPLE, admitting that she began binging and purging shortly after ‘Full House’ ended its run in 1995.

“It wasn’t about me trying to lose weight,” the actress admitted. “It was all about emotions.”

At the time, Candace was adjusting to her new life in Canada with her husband, Russian-born NHL star Valeri Bure.

Now a healthy weight, the former child star credits her figure to plenty of exercise and a diet that allows even her self-professed “weakness,” dessert, in moderation.

Candace talks more about her struggle with the eating disorder in her book, ‘Reshaping it All.’
